Youth Swim Teams
Our YMCA Southcoast swim teams offer a fun, supportive, and competitive environment for youth swimmers ages 6–21. The Fall River Lightning, New Bedford Hurricanes, and Gleason Family YMCA Riptides welcome swimmers of all skill levels—from developing athletes to seasoned competitors.
YMCA Swim Teams: Building Skills, Confidence, and Community
Each co-ed team participates in the YMCA Short Course Swim Season from mid-September through early March, with off-season conditioning and technique practices available April through August. Practices focus on building endurance, refining stroke technique, and promoting teamwork, confidence, and lifelong healthy habits.
YMCA swimming is about more than just competition—it’s about personal growth, sportsmanship, and belonging. Our experienced coaches encourage every swimmer to reach their full potential, both in and out of the pool.

Practice Schedule
Each branch offers multiple practice groups based on age and ability. Schedules are available through your home YMCA branch.
Tryouts and Placement Evaluations
New swimmers are asked to complete a short swim evaluation to ensure the best fit for their age and skill level. Please reach out to the coaches to arrange for your child's evaluation:

Season, Meets, and Registration
Season & Meets
Teams compete in local and regional YMCA swim meets throughout the short course season, with opportunities for championship qualification.
Registration
Registration is available through your local YMCA branch. Swimmers must be active YMCA Southcoast members to participate.
