Field Trips & Youth Education at the Sharing the Harvest Community Farm

Field trips to Sharing the Harvest Community Farm give students a hands-on learning experience across five engaging stations. Students will explore pollinators, soil and compost, gardening skills, the farm’s mission and crops, and sensory connections with nature. Designed for small groups, the two-hour program combines education with fun, encouraging students to get outdoors, appreciate agriculture, and understand the importance of community farming.

Field Trip Overview

During the farm field trip, students will visit 5 different stations. In small groups, they will hear from many different teachers, learning about:

  • The importance of pollinators, and many examples of native bees and butterflies
  • Soil, compost, and critters that live underground
  • Hands-on gardening skills such as planting and harvesting
  • A tour of Sharing the Harvest Community Farm, and learning about its mission and the many varieties of crops grown in the farm fields
  • Appreciating nature through sensory exploration

Field Trip Cost:

$2.50 per student. Chaperones free.

Program Length:

2 hours. Groups may also utilize the pavilion for lunch following the field trip.

Students Should Wear

  • Comfortable clothes
  • Closed toed shoes (boots, sneakers) that can get muddy
  • Dress for wind or rain by wearing layers
  • Do not wear sandals, flip flops, or open-toed shoes
  • Do not wear anything valuable, including jewelry

Students Should Bring

  • A water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
